Closing Ceremony and Gala Concert with Awards
The opening ceremony and concert is a big event for all the World Choral Expo choirs and participants to meet together and celebrate the opening of the Expo. The IFCM Administrative and Artistic Committees will plan a unique and special design for this ceremony and concert to make it a very exciting event.
The opening ceremony and concert will take place in a large venue that can seat around 2000 people. The event will be publicized on television, magazines, newspapers, and online by local and international media.
The IFCM Artistic Committee will invite 6-10 of the world’s top choirs to present their educational methods, repertoire, vocal technics and special choral music topics to the participants of World Choral Expo.
Each Invited World-Renowned Performance Choir will have between 3 performances lasting 30 to 45 minutes and a workshop lasting 30 to 45 minutes where they will share their choir’s culture, various compositions and vocal technics.
Choirs from around the World will register to participate at the World Choral Expo, and the IFCM Administrative Committee will arrange opportunities for all choirs to exchange their cultures and share their skills and experience. The IFCM Artistic Committee will conduct a simple selection process to choose maximum 100 of these choirs to participate as Cultural Exchange Performance Choirs, and they will make up the biggest portion of the entire Expo.
Each Cultural Exchange Performance Choir will have between 3 to 5 performances lasting 20 to 30 minutes, and during one of their performances will receive up to 1 hour of critique by invited coaching experts to advise choirs in techniques and areas of improvement. This will give these Cultural Exchange Performance Choirs performing experience as well as opportunities to learn and improve.
The IFCM will bring 5-6 outstanding children choirs from all over the world and let them meet and work together at the World Choral Expo.
They will sing colourful songs from their own culture. They will also perform together in an effort to promote unity among children and different cultures. Children are our future and with this program we will take a big step for children’s choir education as well as a World without racism.
During this festival we will bring some refugee children and children with special needs to attend “Colourful Voices” and give them a unique experience.
The exhibition will house over 100 booths on choral music, culture and special goods. Exhibitors will include international publishers, composers, associations, choirs, and international and local vendors. The exhibition will be open each day during the World Choral Expo from 9:00 to 18:00. World Choral Expo participants will be given complimentary access to the exhibition.
The exhibition will be composed of avenues of booths organized around a central stage, where choirs may perform and attract visitors while the exhibition is ongoing.
The IFCM Membership Club will welcome all direct members of IFCM with the purpose of meeting, celebrating, learning, creating and networking with each other, furthermore to exchange ideas and discuss about the future of IFCM in a casual atmosphere at the headquarters of IFCM in the Monte Real Palace of Lisbon.
The exclusive closing ceremony and gala concert with awards will occur at the San Carlos National Theatre and it will design a great ending for the World Choral Expo.
The event will be publicized on television, magazines, newspapers, and online by local and international media.
Individual – Individuals must pay a registration package fee to have access to presentations and They will have access also to the exhibition.
Exhibitor – Exhibitors must pay a rental basic fee for their standard exhibition booth and are responsible for their own booth installation display costs. The booth registration package will include free access for 2 people to choir performances.
VIP – VIPs are invited by the organizers and sponsors, and they will have full access to the entire event, including choral education presentations, performances, and the
Invited World-Renowned Performance Choir – Invited World-Renowned Performance Choirs, like VIPs, will have full access to the entire Outside their own performance times, they will be able to participate at the choral education presentations, performances, and exhibition.
Cultural Exchange Performance Choir – Cultural Exchange Performance Choirs must pay a registration Members of the Cultural Exchange Performance Choirs may choose to pay a package fee with choices of different levels of access to presentations and performances. They will have access to the exhibition.
Colourful Voices Program – Like VIPs, will have full access to the entire event. They will have access to choral education presentations, performances, and the exhibition.
* for choir members who wish to attend the other activities the festival provides a discounted participation fee of 200€ / person.
The IFCM Artistic Committee will sort performance choirs into 6 different categories based on their size and members’ age range: 1) children’s choir, 2) youth choir, 3) adult mixed choir, 4) men’s adult choir, 5) adult women’s choir, and 6) vocal ensemble.
These categories do not consist of strict limitations for choirs’ age range and size but are merely outlines/standards by which to sort the different types of choirs participating in the Expo.
When selecting performance choirs (both Invited World-Renowned Performance Choirs and Cultural Exchange Performance Choirs), the IFCM Artistic Committee will consider these categories as part of its selection process in order to ensure a reasonable diversity of choirs for the World Choral Expo.
The IFCM Artistic Committee consists of internationally-recognized music experts, including composers, conductors, vocal artists and professors.
The IFCM Artistic Committee will select 6 to 10 of the best world-renowned choirs from around the world to be invited to perform at the World Choral Expo.

The IFCM Artistic Committee will use the same criteria when evaluating applicant Cultural Exchange Performance Choirs to ensure a minimum standard of quality for choirs being represented at the Expo.
Each venue will provide their name, address and location, and their maximum capacity / number of people who can be hosted at the venue. The local organizations and government will select and provide venues for the Expo.
Opening Ceremony and Closing Ceremony (1)
The opening and closing ceremonies will take place at a venue that can host around 2000 audience
Exhibition Hall (1)
The exhibition hall will be at minimum around 2500 square meters, able
to hold at least 100 standard booths with walkways and central stage.
Concert Venues (6)
Each concert venue will hold between 500 to 1000 audience Concert venues may include music halls, auditoria and churches, in up to 6 different locations. Ideally, concert venues will be places of historical and cultural significance in Portugal.
ACCOMMODATION AND TRANSPORTATION
Accommodation will be provided by the official travel agency IFCM World Choral Expo or people attending the World Choral Expo can select accommodation by their own wishes, and it will be based on the attendees’ choice of a package deal for their accommodation.
Local transportation may be provided by the local travel agency of the World Choral Expo upon request.
The IFCM World Choral Expo provides a unique opportunity for tourism, each attendee and guest of the festival can arrange touristic activities through the local travel agency of the festival itself.
